We heard from Leaticia Kaggwa who has attended a Canadian university and is now at college furthering her education. Her initial Bachelor of Business Economics and Law with a concentration in Marketing (2011) at the University of Alberta helped give her the jump start she needed in business, but now she’s furthering her interests in George Brown College‘s Graphic Design program (2016).

Let’s hear what she has to say about her experience with our institutions!

What makes you proud of being a part of your school/institution?

Both the UofA and George Brown have such a great reputation for innovation and excellence. They’re very inspiring places to learn and meet friendly, forward-thinking people.

What do you think schools/institutions can improve on to create a better student experience?

I think students would greatly benefit from increased access to work term placements and other opportunities that demonstrate the real-world applicability of what they are studying in school.

Who has been the most helpful person that you have encountered in your school/institution? Why were they helpful?

Definitely my Business Law professor, Doug Peterson. Long after his students have graduated, he’s still willing to provide savvy business advice and answer legal questions because he genuinely enjoys what he does.

If you could change your school/institution in just one way, what would that be?

Certain programs have a requirement that enrolled students must take a minimum number of courses per semester, and this minimum number is more courses than what is considered to be a full course load. I would relax this rule so that students could have more freedom to customize the best schedule that works for themselves.

What is your dream job after completing your education?

I’d love to run a social enterprise that addresses important human rights issues.

What are some challenges that you think can stand in the way of you landing your dream job?

Getting involved with the right organizations and connecting with the right people.

Is making a social impact important to you? If yes, then why?

Absolutely! If we’re not trying to make the world a better place, then what are we doing here?

Would you want to work in the education sector? Why?

I firmly believe education is the most powerful method of effecting social change, so I can definitely see myself working in the field for a good portion of my career.

…and…finally:

What is your favourite apple-inspired food?

Pineapple! Just kidding – I love my dad’s homemade hot apple cider.

Thank you Leaticia!
